Halloween 1998 fell on a Saturday night, and it exceeded all our expectations! The weather was fabulous and I had a record turnout of both spooks and guests. A friend down the street owns an old 1940 Farmall tractor, and was giving hayrides around the block as an added bonus to the production. We even got a writeup in the local paper! In the past, some folks have suggested that I put out a donation can to offset my expenses, but I explain to them that I don't expect money for my efforts. Instead, I decided to collect canned goods for the local food bank so those who wanted to contribute could do so and support a good cause at the same time. We collected over 30 cans, which was pretty good for a near-last-minute decision. Now that more people know about it, I expect that 1999 will bring more donations.
